Speaking exclusively to Qlocal Cllr Lynne Thompson said .. As someone who has consistently fought for improvements for Ainsdale Beach Gateway this report seems to contain encouraging news.

Under Butlins there could be scope for a major revamp and modernisation of the Pontins site.

Can Sefton encourage or induce Britannia to give up their lease and allow Butlins to create a new business model with emphasis on quality not just turnover?

While Pontins made money for it's owners, Britannia, with it's poor reputation for investing in their properties, added little to Ainsdale's reputation.

Sefton are currently consulting on a vision for the Ainsdale Beach Gateway that is yet to be funded. This may be the perfect time to help create something of real benefit for residents and visitors alike.

Any opportunity to attract private investment should be thoroughly explored.

Story from the Mirror

Reported exclusively in the Mirror this week Butlins have enquired about taking over saving one of the North West camps Pontins have closed.

Butlin's managing director Jon Hendry Pickup told the Mirror “We would definitely like a conversation with them.” Referring to the Pontins’ Southport, he said: “It is an existing site so there is no need to dig up the countryside.”

Were it to get the site, he said it would most likely flatten what is there now, meaning it would be a longer-term investment. The Southport and Prestatyn camps are attractive to Butlin’s as it does not have a resort in North West England, and it unlikely to start one anywhere else from scratch."
